Weekly Wrap Up
Updated: Apr 11, 2021
This week we started playing with our new theme of "emergence". We talked bees, wrote a song, gave ourselves blues music personas, moved and shared stories!
In Robin Dann's class, we discussed "Emergent Structures".
Emergent structures can be found in nature (e.g., beehives) and essentially means: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
We shared our thoughts on how/when we feel part of a larger whole. Participants said when feel part of something bigger when:
My feet are flat on the ground
I am in nature (Nature is like a cloak that drapes over you, that shelters you)
I am doing my exercises
I visit museums
I am looking through my window and I see a tree
I am digging my fingers in the dirt, I think about the potential for grass
We also created a song called "Tiny Leaves".
In Steve's class, we listened to and sang the blues. Robin G and the participants sang along!
We also created blues names for ourselves:
Scratchy Joe Blair
Big Mama Jan
Strawberry Jam Joan
Disaster Diana
Annie Rhythm
Big Daddy Koven
Lady Mid Afternoon
During Simon's class, we talked about the emergence of new life. When discussing the emergence of joy, Simon played this gorgeous video of a Flash Mob. Musicians gathered one by one and played Ode an die Freude (Ode to Joy) by Beethoven from Symphony No.9.
Robin Gertin presented a "story telling" theme in her class this week.
We shared who the first storyteller in our lives was:
It was also a treat to have Yvonne dancing while Robin played the guitar and sang.
We look forward to classes with you next week. Register here!
We also have a Virtual Open House event coming up on May 6, 2021 at 3pm where we will share a taster of the kinds of program we offer. Invite your family and friends and register here.
